Growing with Coco FAQ
Why choose coco for indoor growing?
Many indoor growers have made the switch to coco (or coir) in recent years. And not without good reason either. Coco is the ideal growing media as it helps increase yields and improves the quality of your crops. Coco provides high aeration levels and excellent drainage that promotes superior root growth, resulting in strong, healthy plants with high yields.
What is coco coir?
Coco coir is a natural substrate that comes from the fruit of coconut trees. Up until relatively recently, coconuts were only harvested for their meat and water, leaving everything from the husk to the inner shell to go to waste. But these days, the unused coconut fibre can be processed into an excellent substrate for growing plants. All matter between the shell and outer coating goes through a lengthy bathing and drying process that lasts over a year before being ready to use.
Is growing in coco eco-friendly?
Coco is an environmentally indoor growing media solution. It’s easy to remove and recycle, making it a great option for indoor growers operating in large and small spaces. Coco can often be used for more than one crop. And can also be added to soil and compost systems once its shelf life expires.
What plants can I grow in coco?
Coco performs in a similar way to soil or peat, meaning it’s possible to grow just about any plant in coco. From exotic plants to herbs, flowers and fruit, coco provides plants with an excellent substrate to thrive.
Why does coco make plants flower faster?
Coco can help plants grow faster due to its fantastic root development properties. Unlike soil, coco doesn’t compact, leaving your roots free to grow. Furthermore, coco can take in and retain high levels of nutrients, which helps the plants absorb more nutrients quickly, leading to a bigger, healthier crop.
Key benefits of growing in coco:
- Coco coir feels and acts a lot like soil, making the transition easy
- Safe to use and eco-friendly, made from 100% renewable materials
- Excellent moisture retention can absorb 10x its weight in water
- Great drainage and aeration, promoting healthy root growth
- Can be reused, making it a cost-effective growing choice
