Types of IWS Flood and Drain Systems
There are 3 types of IWS available from Critical Mass Systems - the basic, the standard and the pro. Below, you will find details of the differences between the different types of Flood and Drain systems.
The basic IWS Flood and Drain system features a 15-minute timer that's attached to the brain. It doesn't come with stands, although they can be added at extra cost, and uses 13mm/16mm pipework.
The standard flood and drain systems include the advanced IWS minute timer that’s positioned remotely to the brain, allowing more accurate flood times. The system also uses 13mm/16mm pipework and comes complete with stands for better drainage of pots.
The Pro system comes with an advanced remote minute timer, a large flood pump in the reservoir and double pumps in the brain unit for drainage. It also utilises 25mm pipework to allow for faster flood and drain cycles and less chance of blockages. Also contains stands for better drainage.
How Flood and Drain Systems Work

IWS Brain Pot
The IWS brain pot connects to the reservoir tank and controls the flow of nutrient solution to the plant pots. It features a pump and two float switches at the top and bottom, and once the feed has been administered, the brain removes the water, or nutrient solution, and pumps it back into the reservoir.
IWS Pots

IWS Minute Timer
The IWS Minute Timer gives you complete control over how long you wish to feed your plants and when you want the feeding times to occur. The timer activates the release of water from the reservoir and fills the pots with water. Then, the brain pumps water back into the reservoir.
